Gastric band and gastric balloon

Gastric Band

laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, commonly called a lap-bandA band, or LAGB, is an inflatable silicone device placed around the top portion of the stomach to treat obesity, intended to decrease food consumption.

LAP-BAND surgery is one of the only adjustable and reversible forms of weight loss surgery. When needed, the gastric band can be easily adjusted using only a small needle. If you decide that another weight loss strategy is better suited to your needs, the LAP-BAND can also be removed.

Gastric balloon

gastric balloon, also known as an intragastric balloon (IGB) or a stomach balloon, is an inflatable medical device that is temporarily (usually 3 to 6 months) placed into the stomach to help reduce weight.

It needs to be placed and removed by endoscopy.

The device is intended to be used by people with a BMI (body mass index) of more than 27 kg/m2.
